STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's track & field team will head up to BU's Track and Tennis Center on Saturday for the David Hemery Valentine Invite as the Huskies begin their final preparations for the American Athletic Conference Championship in two weeks.
The Huskies are coming off winning their 22nd New England Championship last weekend as they send a partial squad to this weekend's event at BU.
"This was a feel good kind of week for us coming off last weekend's performance," roy. "The guys going up this weekend are trying to accomplish some competitive things this weekend. "Tyler Gleen is in great shape and is really looking to take a shot at national qualifying in the 800. Brian Camillieri who has really having a break out year, will run in the 500 as we try to get him ready to score at conference in a few weeks."
The Huskies will have their full allotment of athletes competing in the triple jump led by senior Malik Snead (Trenton, N.J.) who was this week's AAC Field Athlete of the Week. Snead won the New England Championship last weekend with a meet-record tying leap of 15.78 meters (51'9.25"). He currently ranks at the top of the AAC performance list.
Sophomore Brian Camillieri (Pearl River, N.Y.) will look to follow up his New England title in the 800 meters last weekend by running in the 500 meters this weekend. On the flip side, classmate Tyler Gleen (Shelton, Conn.) who won the 500 meter New England crown last weekend, and the 800 meter race at the Columbia Challenge two weeks ago, will run in Saturday's 800 meter field. Gleen currently has the second fastest time in the 800 this season in the 800 at 1:50.49 at Columbia.
Senior Kyle Barber (Fayetteville, N.Y.) will lead the Husky contingent in the crowded field in the mile. Barber owns the third fastest time in the AAC this indoor season at 4:08.52 at last week's New England meet.
Freshman Noah Woodman (Hampstead, N.H.) is in the midst of strong rookie season and is coming off a New England title in the 400 meters last week, an event he owns the fourth fastest time in the AAC this year. He will run in the 200 meters this weekend.
"We are pretty much in full on prep for conference now. This is a performance meet and whomever we have there will be looking for a solid performance. We are looking straight at conference now and working towards preparing for that."
