Huskies Take Down Sacred Heart

TRUMBULL, Conn. - The UConn men's tennis team picked up their first win of the spring on Saturday night, defeating state rival Sacred Heart 6-1 to even their record at 4-4 on the season.
UConn took the opening doubles point in thrilling fashion, with the point coming down to a tiebreaker at No. 2. The UConn team of Jack McLister (Leesburg, Va.) and John Michael Holtmann (Coral Gables, Fla.) posted a 6-2 win over Siji Hosokowa and Bryan Einstoss at No. 1 to open play. SHU rebounded at No. 3 to leave the opening point in the hands of the No. 2 match. UConn's Hank Hill (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) and Yili Zheng (Shanhai, China) answered the bell, winning 7-6 (13-11) in the tiebreaker.
In singles, the Huskies dominated, winning the No. 2 through 6 matches. McLister was a double winner thanks to a 6-2 and 6-3 win over Chris Sause at No. 3. Holtmann also won in singles, beating William Wibmer, 6-4, 6-1, to continue his strong play this spring.
Hill won at No. 3 over Luca Casalduc Pla, 7-6 (1), 6-3 and classmate Justin Warren (Durham, N.C.) won his No. 5 match with Einstoss, 7-6 (4) and 6-1. Christian Provenzano (Montclair, N.J.) closed it out for the Huskies with a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win at No. 6.
The Huskies will host Hofstra on Sunday afternoon at the Magic Lincer Tennis Club in Manchester at 1 pm.
