Karl El-Mir Signs with AHL's Providence Bruins

STORRS, Conn. - UConn senior Karl El-Mir (Montreal, Quebec) signed an amateur tryout (ATO) contract with with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the NHL's Boston Bruins, announced by the team this week. El-Mir just wrapped up his four-year UConn career as he becomes the second Husky this offseason to sign a professional contract, joining Adam Huska (Zvolen, Slovakia) who inked a deal with the New York Rangers, the team that drafted him, and is currently playing with the Hartford Wolfpack (AHL).
El-Mir finished his UConn career having played in 118 games over four years, collecting 62 points coming on 28 goals and 34 assists. He saw his offensive production increase each season in Storrs and this past year he led the Huskies in scoring with 27 points on 13 goals and 14 assists, all career-best marks. He had seven power play goals as well, tied for the lead in Hockey East. As the league heads into the post season, El-Mir is tied for 14th among league leaders in points and ninth in goal scoring.
The Bruins are on the road this weekend at Lehigh Valley on Friday night and Wilkes Barre-Scranton on Saturday.
