A LOOK BACK
This past weekend UConn opened American Athletic Conference play in Orlando in a three-game series at UCF. The Huskies played several tightly contested games against the Knights but were able to take away a win with scores of 2-0, 2-1, 2-1. Marybeth Olson and Katie Koshes split the duty of starting pitcher as head of the UConn defense and pitched a combined 18.2 innings. The duo posted seven strikeouts and helped keep UCF to a pair of runs in all three match ups.
Ashley Esty has put together the longest hitting streak of the season for not only herself but the team. Esty's nine game hitting streak has aided her in stealing five bases in addition to scoring 11 runs this season. Briana Marcelino has also been riding a hot streak for the Huskies, leading the team in 11 offensive categories; .351 batting avg., .494 slugging percentage, 27 hits, a sacrifice fly, six stolen bases, five doubles, 77 at-bats, 38 total bases, 25 games played, and 25 game starts.
SCOUTING UMASS-LOWELL
The River Hawks are currently on a two game winning streak after downing the Yale Bulldogs, 7-3 and 9-1 (5innings) in a doubleheader last week. Head Coach Danielle Henderson is entering her fifth year at the helm and has a fairly well-balanced roster for the 2019 season. There are 14 returners on the roster to help guide the four newcomers. UMass-Lowell was tabbed as the runnerup in the America East preseason coaches' poll back in February just behind UAlbany. The River Hawks have been honored by the America East Conference four times to start the season led by two time honoree junior Courtney Cashman as Player of the Week.
