Huskies Play Final Non-Conference Series of 2019

HUNTSVILLE, Texas.- The UConn baseball team travels to Huntsville, Texas to play Sam Houston State for a three-game non-conference series beginning on Friday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. ET. Game one will be streamed on ESPN+ and the WatchESPN app while the rest of the series will be streamed on the Bearkat Sports Network on YouTube. All three game will be on 91.7 FM WHUS or online at whus.org.
The Huskies are coming off a midweek win against Rhode Island on Wednesday afternoon, a 2-1 triumph, that ended a season-long three game losing streak. Caleb Wurster fired a career-high three scoreless frames and preserved the 2-1 lead in the sixth inning by getting out of a bases-loaded, no out jam.
UConn can bolster its postseason resume this weekend against the Bearkats. Sam Houston State is rated No. 78 and is a perennial contender for NCAA Tournament Regionals. The Bearkats have been to five NCAA Tournaments since 2012 and have won either a Southland regular season or tournament title in three straight seasons. Sam Houston is currently tied for first place with Southeastern Louisiana. The Bearkats have secured wins this season against Nebraska and Baylor this season.
The Huskies are 2-1 all-time against the Bearkats, with a series win in Huntsville back in 2013. The Huskies won the first two games of the series behind a three-hit and four RBI game from Jon Testani and 7.1 shutout innings from Carson Cross to clinch the series win.Â
UConn opened up its weekend trip with a visit to Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros, The Huskies met up with former UConn All-American center fielder George Springer. Springer showed the team around the the ballpark including the clubhouse, batting cages, etc. Manager AJ Hinch also took time to speak to the team while Alex Bregman and Michael Brantley made guest appearances.Â
