HookC Hosts Creighton For Easter Weekend

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (15-15, 2-1 BIG EAST) plays host to the Creighton Bluejays (13-13, 0-0 BIG EAST) for a three-game BIG EAST series beginning Thursday, April 2 at 3:05 p.m. Start time on Good Friday begins at 2:05 p.m. with a series finale start time on Saturday at 10:05 a.m.
UConn is coming off a home series win against Xavier to kick off BIG EAST Conference play and followed it up with a 21-5 run-rule victory at Northeastern on Tuesday.Â
The Bluejays open BIG EAST play this weekend and are coming off a series win against Sacramento State last weekend in Omaha and lost a one-run ballgame to No. 19 Nebraska at Charles Schwab Field on Tuesday, 6-5.Â
Ben North leads Creighton with a .354 batting average (6th in BE), with 35 hits (tied for team lead) and seven stolen bases. Nate McHugh leads the team with five home runs while Connor Capece has driven in a team-high 23. Jack Pineau is just behind the league leaders with three wins on the year and is third in the BIG EAST with 43 strikeouts. Matt Goldenbaum has been a weapon out of the bullpen with a minuscule 0.68 ERA in 13.1 innings pitched.Â
Chris Polemeni leads the Huskies with a .375 batting average (2nd BE), .496 on-base percentage (1st in BE) and fourth in the conference with 12 stolen bases. Jackson Marshall paces the Huskies with nine home runs (T3rd in BE) and Cam Righi leads UConn with 24 runs batted in. Righi is coming off a four-hit, eight RBI game against Northeastern on Tuesday.Â
On the mound, Cayden Suchy leads the conference with 53 strikeouts and is tied for the league lead with 42.2 innings pitched. The left-hander ranks second with 2.74 ERA, trailing teammate Charlie Hale (1.88 ERA).Â
UConn is 10-5 all-time against Creighton and went 1-3 against the Bluejays last season. The Huskies and Bluejays shared the BIG EAST regular season title but Creighton took the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST Championship after taking two-of-three from the Huskies in Omaha. The two teams squared off in the BIG EAST Championship game and Creighton captured the title with a 7-4 victory.
