American Athletic Conference Release Â
HOUSTON, Texas - The 2019 American Athletic Conference Championship will not be completed due to harsh weather conditions in the Houston area.
USF, the highest remaining seed in the tournament, was awarded The American's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. Per conference policy, no tournament champion or all-tournament team was selected.
Relentless rain and continuous inclement weather maintained a presence in the area throughout the week with only three of the first-round games being completed on Thursday, May 9th. Sixth-seeded UConn successfully played through four innings versus the third-seeded host Houston, with two-outs and a runner at second base on Thursday in the top of the fifth. The game was suspended due to the aforementioned weather.Â
Heavy rains prevented the completion of the final quarterfinal contest in addition to the following rounds of the tournament.Â
