STORRS, Conn. – After an exciting 2018 season that saw the resurgence of UConn men's soccer and a return to the NCAA Tournament, the Huskies begin their return to the pitch in August as the program has released its competitive 2019 season. The 17-game slate features eight regular-season home matches and five tilts against teams that qualified for the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Location of home contests is TBD.
"We've put together a challenging schedule for our student-athletes," said head coach Ray Reid.
UConn finished last year at 12-6-2 (3-2-2 AAC), as the team recorded its 21st winning season in 22 years, advanced to the AAC semifinals, and earned an at-large selection to the 2018 Men's Soccer Championship - ending a two year hiatus. Additionally, the Huskies went on a 10-match unbeaten streak, spent five consecutive weeks in the Top-25 polls (ranked as high as No. 8) and finished atop the NCAA men's soccer attendance rankings for the second year in a row.
Following a pair of preseason games, the Huskies will open up the season at home against Rider on August 30, then travel 90 minutes up to road for a Sept. 2 contest versus northeast rival Rhode Island – the team UConn ousted in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
UConn will host Farleigh Dickenson on Sept. 6 before embarking on a two-game road trip at Yale and Georgetown Sept. 11 and 14, respectively. The Huskies face Manhattan and Columbia at home Sept. 17 and 20 prior to trekking down to Tampa for the American Athletic Conference opener at USF Sept. 27.
After opening October at Dartmouth (Oct. 1), home matches against conference foe Memphis (Oct. 4) and Providence (Oct. 8) await the team.
Next up, UConn will play a pivotal stretch of games to close out the 2019 season. The Huskies will weather battles on the road at Cincinnati and Syracuse – the final non-conference opponent – Oct. 12 and 15, respectively, before facing UCF on Oct. 20. Two of the final three matches are on the road, including games against Temple (Oct. 26) and back-to-back AAC champion SMU (Nov. 1). The regular season comes to a close with a Nov. 5 Senior Night contest versus Tulsa.
The AAC Tournament will take place from Nov. 9-16. The Quarterfinal round will be played Nov. 9 at the higher seed's venue, with the semifinals and championship slated for Nov. 13 and 16, respectively, at the site of the No. 1 seed, as determined by the regular-season crown.
