Rowing Participates in 46th Annual Eastern Sprints

WORCESTER, Mass. – In its final regular season regatta before the AAC Championships, the UConn women's rowing team competed in the 46th annual Women's Eastern Sprints on Sunday at Lake Quinsigamond.
The Huskies raced against some of the premiere rowing programs in the eastern United States.
"The Eastern Sprints is a great race for us at this point in the season as we prepare for the Conference Championship," said 22nd-year head coach Jennifer Sanford. "It is an extremely competitive field and we get to see many crews that we haven't raced yet this season representing different conferences."
The Third Varsity 8+ finished sixth among the competing field with a time of 7:23.109, while the Varsity 8+ progressed to the petite final from heats in the morning and finished ahead of Boston College with a time of 6:50.100. Â
"Every week each boat has learned from racing and taken it to practice the following week," Sanford added. "This past week was a very productive week of practice. I was very happy to see the Varsity 8 best Boston College for the first time this spring. We also closed a large gap with Temple, coming in only 1.5 second behind them."
The Huskies are idle this week as the student-athletes prepare to take final exams, but will return to the water for the AAC Championships on May 19 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
"We still have a lot of possible speed to gain over the next two weeks as we prepare for the last race of the season in Oklahoma City."
