Travis Jones, Kevin Mensah and Matt Peart Earn Preseason Recognition From Athlon Sports

UConn Opens 2019 Season on August 29
STORRS, Conn. - Three Huskies have earned a spot on the 2019 Preseason Athlon Sports American Athletic All-Conference teams, as announced by Athlon on Monday. ย Junior running back Kevin Mensah and senior offensive lineman Matt Peart each earned mention on the Offensive Third Team while defensive lineman Travis Jones was selected to the Defensive Fourth Team. ย
Mensah rushed for 1,045 yards on 225 carries and scored six touchdowns for the Huskies during his sophomore campaign. ย He became the first UConn running back since Lyle McCombs in 2011 to eclipse the 1,000-yard rushing mark and ran for a career-best 187 yards on November 10 against SMU. ย
Peart started all 12 games at right tackle in 2018 for the Huskies and anchored a line that produced a pair of 1,000-yard rushers. ย Peart has started all 36 of UConn's games since his redshirt freshman year in 2016.
Jones posted 46 tackles, including 5.5 tackles for a loss, to go along with three sacks during his true freshman season. ย He saw significant time in all 12 games and had at least one TFL in three of UConn's last four games last year.
The Huskies open the 2019 season on Thursday, August 29 when the team welcomes Wagner to Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field. ย Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. and ticket options are available at UConnTickets.com. ย
