Huskies Fall to Maryland

EAST HARTFORD, CT โ The UConn Huskies saw their eight-game home winning streak come to an end with a 38-14 loss to Maryland on Saturday afternoon in front of 34.494 at Pratt & Whittney Stadium at Rentschler Field.
The Huskies (1-1) were limited to 12 first downs, 223 yard of total offense including 67 rushing yards and a 3-for-11 mark on third down on.
Junior quarterback Kalieb Osborne completed 10 of 21 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns and added 30 rushing yards. Senior Shamar Porter caught three passes for 62 yards and a touchdown. Defensive back Zion Paret led the UConn defense with 12 tackles while linebacker K'Von Sherman recorded nine tackles and forced a fumble.
The Huskies struck first for a 7-0 lead at 4:39 in the first quarter. Osborne capped a three-play drive with a 36-yard touchdown pass to JD Willoughby to UConn and early edge.. Maryland tied it on the next possession, overcoming two false starts before Malik Washington hit Na'eem Abdul-Rahim Gladding for a 60-yard touchdown.
Maryland (2-0) made it 14-7 with a 92-yard drive that included a 24-yard Washington completion to Chris Durr Jr. and ended with Harry Dalton III's 4-yard touchdown run at 7:51 in the second. The Terrapins tacked on a field goal as Sean O'Haire made a 19-yard field goal with four seconds left to send Maryland into halftime ahead 17-7.
UConn's opening possession of the second half stalled after Kaleb Osborne was sacked and Isiah Switzer recovered the fumble, forcing a punt. Maryland followed with a 10-play, 71-yard drive, overcoming an Anas Luqman's sack with Malik Washington's 30-yard completion to Kaleb Webb on third down before Iverson Howard scored from the one to make it 24-7 at 8:42. The Huskies responded with a 77-yard drive, as Osborne hit Porter for 20 yards and then for a 39-yard touchdown, to make it 24-14 at 5:29. Maryland came back with a 75-yard march capped by Dalton III's two-yard touchdown run and a 31-14 lead to end the third. The Terps tacked on a Washington to Chris Durr Jr. 13-yard touchdown at 10:57 to produce the final, 38-14.
Washington completed 34 of 41 passes for 347 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Na'eem Abdul-Rahim Gladding caught eight passes for 130 yards and a touchdown. Chris Durr Jr. added 10 receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown. Derrick LeBlanc recorded two sacks among his two tackles.
Up Next: The Huskies hit the road for the first time this season as they head to Southern Miss next Saturday, September 19 for a 7 pm kick-off.
