STORRS, Conn. — In the fourth edition of this spotlight we caught up with Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Kline, a 2019 graduate of the UConn volleyball program. The four-year All-Time Letterwinner was a solid option for the Huskies during her time in Storrs.
Consistency was key for Kline as she improved to the premier Libero/Defensive Specialist that of her senior year. Through four years as a Husky she tallied 386 sets played, 107 matches played, 261 assists, 30 service aces, and 1,135 digs. Kline surpassed 1,000 career digs in a November match versus UCF, and is now in the top-10 of the record books for digs in a single season at 533. She is also on the Annual Leaderboard for her hitting percentage during the 2017 season of .333 and digs in 2018 at 533.
Her senior campaign caught the eye of the American Athletic Conference, as she was tabbed the conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 19th and Weekly Honor Roll member for Nov. 1st. She was also named to the All-Tournament team for the 2018 UConn Challenge.
Catch up with the Glenshaw, Pennsylvania native by reading her answers below in the fourth edition of 'UConn Volleyball, then and now.'
Thinking back to your time before UConn, what made you chose to come to Storrs?
I absolutely fell in love with the campus when I first visited in high school. Everything about the campus is beautiful. From the closely detailed landscape to the sunrises and sunsets on horse barn hill, I love everything about it. It made me feel like home when I wasn't home.
What was your major at UConn?
Economics with a minor in Spanish.
What is something you will always remember/cherish about UConn Volleyball?
I will forever cherish the memories I made with my teammates and coaches throughout my four years. The people made my experience incredible and I wouldn't have been able to make it all four years without them. They are my family.
What are you up to now?
I am an Internal Sales Associate at Federated Investors, and live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
What would you consider your greatest accomplishment since graduating from UConn?
Getting a job with a very high reputable company.
How did being a student-athlete here at UConn help prepare you for life after graduation?
Being a student-athlete helped shape me into the woman I am today and I am proud of the woman I have become. I still have a lot to learn but being a student-athlete has helped me better myself. I had to deal with adversity on and off the court. I had to learn how to effectively communicate with many people that all learn in different ways and I had to find the best ways to get through to them. I have been put in situations where I have succeeded greatly and also have failed miserably, but the best part about failure is to learn from your mistakes and what you need to improve on. I see failures as great opportunities to learn and being a student-athlete has showed me that. These are qualities that I can use everyday in my life, especially in the workforce. I am the woman I am today because I was a student athlete.
What advice would you give our current student-athletes?
Always stay positive. Even when times get tough, having a positive mindset and outlook on situations can only be beneficial to you and your teammates. Positivity is contagious!
