This summer I got the opportunity to be a counselor at a leadership camp that I actually attended four years ago when I was 17. Camp RYLA (Rotary Youth Life Awakening) is a week long leadership/life camp for incoming seniors in high school. One of the main ideas of the camp is that you cannot lead others until you learn how to lead yourself and you cannot lead yourself until you know yourself. It was an unbelievable experience to get to serve as a counselor, give back to these kids, and to see the growth that I have had since I was a 17-year-old at this camp. It was truly incredible to give back to the organization that inspired me four years ago and to help lead as well as inspire others.Â
