Huskies Sweep Georgetown, Secure Share of BIG EAST Regular Season Title

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The UConn softball team dominated the Georgetown Hoyas, 15-1 in a five-inning run-rule victory on Sunday afternoon at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex. With the win the Huskies secured a share of the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship with Providence, closing out the regular season with a 18-6 record in BIG EAST play and 28-25 overall record on the year.
Graduate Jessica Walter made her 15th start of the season in the regular season finale for the Huskies. Walter tossed 3.0 scoreless innings in the circle, giving up a pair of hits with a strikeout.
UConn took control early, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the 1st inning, giving the Huskies a 2-0 lead. Cat Petteys opened the scoring with her team-leading 14th double this season, bringing home Kaitlyn Kibling from third base. The next batter, Haley Coupal scored Petteys with a single, doubling the Huskies lead.
UConn extended its lead to 7-0 in the top of the 2nd inning on three hits. Heidi Barber got it started with a single, scoring Ava Calciano and Emma Willers. Later in the inning, Petteys hit another double, scoring Caylee De Meo and Barber. Coupal capped off the big inning with her second hit of the game, bringing home Petteys from second base.
UConn continued their offensive dominance in the top of the 3rd inning, hanging an eight spot on the board to balloon the lead to 15-0. The Huskies loaded the bases for Barber who delivered a single, scoring Calciano. Kibling followed Barber with a ground out to third base, scoring Willers. The next batter, Savannah Ring brought in two more runs with a double, scoring De Meo and Barber, putting UConn into double digits with an 11-0 advantage. Two batters later, Coupal kept the hit parade going with her third hit of the game, scoring Ring from second base. Later in the inning, the Huskies once again loaded the bases for Willers who cleared them with a triple, the first three-bagger of her career, capping off UConn's big inning at the plate.
Sophomore Alexandra Bacher came on in relief for Walter in the 4th inning, making her 16th appearance of the season.Bacher went 1.0 inning giving up one run on three hits.
Georgetown scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the 4th inning, making it a 15-1 game.
Sophomore Amber Bretton came on in relief for Bacher in the 5th inning, making her 20th appearance this season. Bretton got the first two outs of the inning before handing the ball to classmate Stella Kiemele in the circle, making her ninth appearance of the season. Kiemele got the final out of the inning, securing the series sweep of Georgetown.

- Under head coach Laura Valentino, UConn has won the BIG EAST Regular Season title in three out of the last five seasons (2022, 2023, & 2026).
- Cat Petteys recorded her sixth three-hit game this season, and 13th multi-RBI game of the year. She has reached base safely in 11 straight games.
- Kaitlyn Kibling has reached base safely in 21 straight games.
- Haley Coupal recorded her second three-hit game this season, and ninth multi-RBI game in her senior campaign. She has posted multi-RBI performances in four of her last seven games and has reached base safely in 12 straight games.
- Heidi Barber recorded her third multi-hit and seventh multi-RBI games this season.
- Emma Willers recorded her seventh multi-hit and tenth multi-RBI games this season.
- Savannah Ring recorded her eighth multi-RBI game this season.
- All nine UConn batters reached base safely.
