LANCASTER, Pa. - The United States Women's National Team selected its 2020 international roster and former Huskies Karlie Heistand and Casey Umstead were both selected to the 25-player roster.Â
Heistand joins the team after spending three years on the U.S. Women's National Development Team and prior to that was a member of the U-19 and U-21 USWNT. The former UConn standout played for the Huskies from 2014-17 and was a part of two national championship teams and four final four teams. During her senior season she was named a NFHCA Division I All-American and to the NCAA Division I Championship All-Tournament Team. Heistand is currently an assistant coach at Villanova.Â
Heistand's teammate at UConn, Casey Umstead, has spent time with the Senior National Team since November 2018. She competed at the 2019 Pan American Games in August and at the FIH Hockey Qualifier in India in November. Umstead also donned the UConn jersey from 2014-17. She was an NFHCA First Team All-American in 2017 and helped UConn to the 2014 and 2017 NCAA Championships.
Athletes attended the 2020 Trial that took place Monday, January 6 to Wednesday, January 8. Of the pool of athletes that were recommended by their college coaches, those successful candidates produced a high level of play creating a truly elite trial environment. Athletes were challenged to push the standards of the game and they rose to that challenge.
The 2020 calendar for the USWNT will hit the ground running with the second edition of the FIH Hockey Pro League. USA kicks off competition on Friday, January 24 against No. 1 The Netherlands at Karen Shelton Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.Â
