STORRS, Conn. – UConn Athletics has planned a pair of Husky Heritage games to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the opening of Gampel Pavilion.
The women's basketball team will host its Husky Heritage game against Tulsa on Sunday, Jan. 19, while the men's basketball team will have its game on Sunday, Feb. 9, against Cincinnati.
The Huskies will welcome back members of their teams from the 1989-90 season and recognize them at the game. The current UConn teams will wear throwback shooting shirts with the logos that were used from the 1980's and '90's up until 2002.Â
Gampel Pavilion opened on Jan. 21, 1990. The first basketball game played in the arena was on Jan. 27, 1990, when the No. 20 UConn men's basketball team defeated No. 15 St. John's, 72-58. The women's team played its first game in Gampel on Jan. 31, 1990, a 76-54 win over Georgetown.
