STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's tennis team opens up the spring schedule this weekend as they play host to the Bryant Bulldogs at the Magic Lincer Tennis Club in Manchester on Sunday morning.
The Huskies will play three home matches at Magic Lincer and three on their home courts on campus in Storrs. In addition to taking on Bryant this Sunday, UConn will host LIU and Sacred Heart in Manchester and Fairfield, Army West Point and Boston University on campus.
UConn did not play a dual match this past fall, participating in five tournaments. This will be UConn's final season of play in the American Athletic Conference and they will take on five schools from the league in Temple, Houston, Tulane, ECU and Cincinnati on the way to their final AAC Championship appearance in April.
The UConn roster has just one senior this season in Cassie Chung (Vancouver, British Columbia) who played to a 4-2 singles mark and a 4-4 doubles record this past fall. Chung had 13 singles victories last year and 14 in doubles play.
Sophomores Mireille Moreau (Warwick, Quebec) and Julieanne Bou (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) led the Huskies during the fall. Bou was the Huskies leading singles player from last season, posting a team-best 16 wins. She added 20 doubles wins in as well. Moreau was the Huskies top singles player, picking up seven victories while also adding four doubles wins to her totals this past fall. She had nine wins all of her rookie season.
Bou was UConn's top doubles player, winning eight matches during the fall, four with Chung and four when teamed with Moreau. Freshman Denise Lai (Setauket, N.Y.) had a strong fall season with five singles wins.
