Huskies in Second After Day One of New England Championships

BOSTON, Mass. โ The UConn women's track and field team wrapped up day one of the New England Championship meet at the Reggie Lewis Center. The Huskies distance medley team claimed the team's first gold of the weekend, taking first place with a time of 11:52.46.
The Huskies finish the first day of the meet in second place with 40.33 points. Dartmouth leads the field with 53.50 points and Northeastern sits in third with 39 points after day one of the competition. UConn returns to the Reggie Lewis Center tomorrow, looking to close the gap on Dartmouth and claim victory at the New England Championships.
"The highlight today for the women was winning the distance medley, which was a great race," said director of cross country and track & field Greg Roy. "Emma had another great performance in the pole vault and Mikyla did a really great job in the weight throw again today taking second. We moved kids through to tomorrow which is what we were looking to do. We've got a lot of opportunities tomorrow, so I told them just come back and let's keep itย going. Let's go get Dartmouth."
"I thought they had a great day today. I'm excited, this is a great meet. New England champs is a really great meet. This is a big deal for a lot of our athletes and we are looking forward to tomorrow."

On the trackโฆ
- Junior Mia Nahom, sophomore Celia Chacko, junior Solange Wright, and senior Danielle Jordan led the distance medley team to victory with a time of 11:52.46.
- Sophomore Shanelle Colmon and senior Jiana Baker hold the top two times in the 200 meter dash heading into Saturday's final race.
- Freshman Elise O'Leary and sophomore Ayoola Gbolade have top-five times heading into the 800 meter final race Saturday.
- Senior Jiana Baker holds the top time heading into Saturday's 60 meter dash finals.
- Senior Ericka Randazzo took fourth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 17:20.08.
In the fieldโฆ
- Sophomore Emma Chee grabs a second place finish with a new PR in the pole vault, clearing 4.00m (13'1.5").
- Sophomore Mikyla Rodgers took second place in the weight throw and set a new PR with a throw of 19.01m (62-04.50).
