STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team has announced the signing of four newcomers to the class of 2025. Rosie Garcia, Lexi Hastings Delaney Nagy and Elise Sokolsky all signed their National Letter of Intents on Wednesday.
"The 2021 class will bring consistent grit to our program," said head coach Laura Valentino. "I am very excited to coach their love for the game and drive to win championships at UConn."
Garcia is an infielder from William J. "Pete" Knight High School in Palmdale, Calif. She only played one year of high school ball as a freshman. Garcia was the only underclassman on the varsity team and captured First Team All-Golden League honors. Garcia played for the Firecracker TJ 18U travel team, where she hit .565 at the Colorado Sparkler Power Pool and followed it up hitting .450 at the PGF Nationals. Garcia also swam and played tennis during high school.
"Rosie is a tremendous athlete who will bring her tenacious attitude to our infield as well as at the plate," said Valentino. "I am confident Rosie's discipline and commitment to being great will help her achieve amazing things in a UConn uniform."
Hastings joins the Huskies from South Central High School in Winterville, N.C. During her four seasons playing for head coach Cotton Nicks, she was Seminole District Second Team Utility and Second Team Outfielder. The outfielder was a team captain and set a Jared Hardin Camp record in the 40-yard dash and home-to-home time. The speedster ran indoor and outdoor track while also playing volleyball in high school. On the track, Hastings was Multi- All District, All-State and All-Region. She also was a two-time National Qualifier in the Emerging Elite High Jump and Freshman Triple Jump. While competing as a three-sport athlete, she was also named to the National Honor Society.
"Lexi is going to challenge opponents defense consistently with her speed and instincts," said Valentino. "Her athleticism will be a special asset to our program and I look forward to having her leadership shine in our program."
Nagy heads to Storrs from Bethel Park, Pa. after lettering four seasons at Bethel Park High School for head coach Heather Semplice-Scott. Leading the team as a team captain her senior year, Nagy was a Second Team All-State pitcher. The right-handed pitcher also earned National Honor Society recognition.
"Delaney is a selfless pitcher who will bring great command to our staff," said Valentino. "I'm excited to see Delaney grow at the college level and be an integral part of completing our pitching staff."
Sokolsky enters the UConn program from Bentonville West High School in Centerton, Arkanasas. Under head coach Anthony Cantrell, she lettered two years after having senior year wiped out due to Covid-19. The right-handed pitcher is ranked No. 62 pitcher in the Class of 2021 and No. 121 overall. She was named an All-Conference performer after her sophomore season. Sokolsky was invited to the 2016 USA Elite Select Futures All-American Game. Helped pitch her team to a runner-up finish in the 2019 Wilson World Series.
"Elise will be a strong addition to our pitching staff in 2021," said Valentino. "She is a student of the game and I am looking forward to seeing her influence our program with her presence and passion right away."
