Kearsey Takes Gold in 50 Free

HOUSTON, Texas, -- Senior Will Kearsey claimed the top spot in the 50 free finals with a time of 19.48, just .01 seconds slower than his prelim time. Kearsey is the first gold medal winner for the Huskies at the AAC Championships.
The men's 200 freestyle relay team took third place in the final event, coming in at 1:19.82. Kearsey was the lead-off man for the relay, turning a personal best time of 19.40, the fastest at the championships.
"Real impressed with Jurcik and Will's swims tonight. Those guys were elite and their skills were on display tonight," said head coach Chris Maiello.
"Will's swim was a conference record. A lot of great teams have swam in the American and for him to have the conference record says a lot about his speed."
In the 200 Individual Medley prelims, senior Cooper Knapp, sophomore Emils Gustav Jurcik, and freshman Will Regan qualified for the final heats of the event. Jurcik highlighted the event, finishing third and earning the bronze medal with a personal best and school record time of 1:45.93. Knapp placed sixth overall with a time of 1:48.22, just behind his qualifying time. Regan beat his prelim time, finishing at 1:49.85 and placing second in the first heat of the final.
Sophomore Jack Muratori, junior Kyle Dunlap, and sophomore Joshua Bryant also qualified for the finals of the event Thursday night. Muratori finished with a time of 20.69. Bryant came in just after at 20.84, while Dunlap beat his qualifying time, finishing at 20.50.
Five Huskies had qualifying times for the 500 free finals Thursday night. Junior Joshua Wroblewski finished fifth overall, coming in at 4:24.89, a personal best time. Freshmen Gavin Moak also set a new personal best with a time of 4:27.36, earning him second in the first heat of the final. Mcallistar Milne also finished with a personal best time, coming in at 4:34.31. Senior Karl Bishop and sophomore Alfred Hanson set personal best times in the prelims, coming in at 4:27.16 and 4:24.13, respectively.
"We need to be a bit sharper tomorrow morning and get out to a little better start. We have been in good battles all year and hopefully that has prepped us for the stretch run for this meet."
