Buenos Aires, Argentina - Former UConn standouts Karlie Heistand and Casey Umstead played for the No. 14 US Women's National team's Friday contest against Argentina, losing 6-2 to the No. 3 ranked team.Â
For Heistand, it was her US Women's National team debut.
Heistand joins the team after spending three years on the U.S. Women's National Development Team and prior to that was a member of the U-19 and U-21 USWNT. The former UConn standout played for the Huskies from 2014-17 and was a part of two national championship teams and four final four teams. During her senior season she was named a NFHCA Division I All-American and to the NCAA Division I Championship All-Tournament Team. Heistand is currently an assistant coach at Villanova.Â
Heistand's teammate at UConn, Casey Umstead, has spent time with the Senior National Team since November 2018. She competed at the 2019 Pan American Games in August and at the FIH Hockey Qualifier in India in November. Umstead also donned the UConn jersey from 2014-17. She was an NFHCA First Team All-American in 2017 and helped UConn to the 2014 and 2017 NCAA Championships.
