ATLANTA – Four members of the UConn women's basketball team were named All-Region by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Tuesday.
Senior Crystal Dangerfield, junior Megan Walker, sophomore Olivia Nelson-Ododa and sophomore Christyn Williams were named regional finalists for 2020 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America for Region 3.
With four selections, UConn has the most all-region picks of any program.
Dangerfield was a unanimous All-AAC First Team selection and was named to the all-tournament team. She averaged 14.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. Dangerfield ranked 26th nationally with a 2.27 assist-turnover ratio.
Walker was the 2020 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Tournament Most Outstanding Player. In 2019-20, she averaged 19.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game while ranking eighth nationally with a 45.1 three-point field goal percentage. Walker scored 20 or more points in 18 games this season. The Chesterfield, Va., native was named an AP and USBWA First Team All-American.
Nelson-Ododa led UConn with 8.5 rebounds per game this season while adding 10.9 points per game. She was named All-AAC Second Team. Nelson-Ododa ranked fourth nationally with 100 total blocks and seventh with 3.13 blocks per game.
Williams averaged 14.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game this season. She was named All-AAC First Team and to the AAC All-Tournament Team.
The 2020 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America team will be announced Thursday, April 2.
The selection committee uses an equation to determine an equitable number of finalists from each region. The number of NCAA Division I institutions in each region is divided by the number of NCAA Division I institutions overall to determine a percentage for each region. This percentage is then multiplied by 52 (the total number of desired finalists) to get the number of finalists for each region.
