Sappington Garners AAC Player of the Week Honors

STORRS, Conn. – Redshirt Junior Olivia Sappington was elected the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for March 9, as announced by the conference office this afternoon.
Sappington was bestowed the crown of conference's top player after an explosive performance in five games at the JMU Invitational, helping the Huskies go 4-1 on the weekend. The Ashburn, Va., native boasted a .588 batting average while racking up three home runs, 11 RBI's a 1.706 OPS and notched four runs in five starts, including wins over James Madison and a run-rule shutout of PAC-12 opponent California. Additionally, Sappington batted .636 with runners in scoring position during the weekend, pairing that with four multiple-hit games and four multi-RBI outings.
She opened the tournament a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored against Siena (March 6) before smashing two home runs and driving in three runs later that day against JMU (March 6). Sappington contributed a hit and two RBI the following day in a run-rule win over JMU (March 7) before closing the weekend 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in a five-inning victory against Cal (March 8).
The Huskies travel to Hempstead, N.Y. for a Tuesday afternoon tilt against Hofstra at 2 pm, before competing in the St. John's Invitational later this weekend.
