Giannelli Classic To Be A Virtual Event

Despite these uncertain times, the UConn golf program is determined that the annual Coach Joe Giannelli Classic will indeed take place this year, although in a different type of format. UConn fans can take part virtually, on the weekend of Sept. 24-27, from a golf course of their own choosing.
Golfers can register for the fundraising event -- online, by phone, by email or regular mail -- either as individuals ($300), in foursomes ($1,200), or at one of three sponsorship levels. All participants will receive a Nike backpack, a UConn Golf Nike hat, a UConn Golf 26 oz. Yeti Rambler, and a dozen TaylorMade UConn Golf Balls.
Once registered for the Coach Giannelli Virtual Golf Weekend, participants may golf at the course of their choosing and submit a photo of their scorecard and their foursome to giannelli@uconn.edu. Since groups will be using different courses, winners will be decided by relation to par -- foursomes will be judged by using one best ball of four, while individuals will be judged by the lowest score. Prizes will be awarded to the Top Three foursomes and the Top Three individuals. The last day to submit a scorecard will be Tuesday, Sept. 29.
On Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 8 p.m., all participants will be invited to a zoom ceremony, hosted by UConn Golf Coach Dave Pezzino, during which winners will be announced and plenty of golf talk will be heard.
