It took UConn men's basketball coach Dan Hurley just a little over two seasons to bring a sub-.500 basketball team back to rubbing shoulders with the nation's elite.
Talk about a fast break.
Hurley, who was hired as the Huskies' head coach after the 2017-18 season in which the team finished 14-18, and his program reached a significant milestone Monday as the Huskies were ranked in the Associated Press Top 25.
UConn, ranked No. 25, jumped into the rankings from the "Also Receiving Votes" category by virtue of its 6-1 overall record and two BIG EAST Conference road victories last week over Marquette and Butler.
It is the first time the Huskies have been included in the Top 25 since they were ranked No. 18 in the preseason rankings of the 2016-17 season, and the first time UConn has been ranked during the regular season since it was No. 23 in the poll of Jan. 4, 2016.
UConn has a rich history with the AP Poll. Since such records were kept at UConn, beginning in 1953-54, the Huskies have appeared in 344 AP polls, including a UConn record of 77 consecutive polls from November, 1997 through January, 2001. But the Huskies have been missing from the polls for nearly five years.
Just 71 games into his UConn tenure, Hurley has ended the drought. Â Â
