Huskies Open Season Against CCSU

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's swim and dive team will open their 2020-2021 campaign on Friday when they host the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State University. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm ET at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium.

"The team is really looking forward to racing and diving again. It's been just short of one year since we were able to suit up and compete as a team. It's been a difficult time for our team no question," said head coach Chris Maiello.

The Huskies' return to the pool to take on CCSU, who took down Sacred Heart is their season opener on Saturday, January 23^rd with a 184.5-112.5 victory.

"Our team is full of strong men and women and I give them a lot credit for getting to this point. Overcoming the obstacles, they have since last season has shown the true quality of the people we have. Our message to the team this week was fairly simple: It's to go out tomorrow and have fun by being the moment, feel the adrenaline of competition again, support each other, compete as a team and hopefully come out of with a victory. We know we have put in solid work in training since we have returned, we just need to relax and let that take over."

"With a shortened season, things are a bit untraditional, but our student athletes have had a good mental approach to our seasonal plan and have been flexible with changes along the way. Good things are to come of this group."

Friday's meet will be the first of four scheduled meets before conference championships in 2021. The full schedule can be found below.

Saturday, March 6 at 1:00pm vs. Bryant (Storrs, CT)

Saturday, March 20 at 1:00pm at Seton Hall (South Orange, NJ)

Wednesday, April 7 – Saturday, April 10 at Big East Championships (Geneva, OH/Spire Institute)
