UCONN SWIMMERS PLAY HOST TO VILLANOVA

STORRS, Conn. – Although the UConn women's swimming and diving team only returned to the BIG EAST Conference last year, it seems to already have developed a healthy rivalry with conference powerhouse Villanova.
At last year's BIG EAST Conference championship in April, UConn surprised most followers by giving the perennial top team in the league a run for its money, before Villanova finally prevailed, totaling 906.5 points to runner-up UConn's 838.
The rivalry will be renewed again Saturday, as the Huskies play host to Villanova at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium, starting at noon.
UConn (2-0) has had a good start to its season, topping Northeastern, 156-122, and Central Connecticut, 217-124, in a two-day season opener. Standouts for the Huskies so far include sophomore Melissa Lowry and junior Mia Galat, who finished 1-2 in the 200 freestyle, while Galat and Linnea Anderson did the same in the 200 butterfly. Anderson and Lowry also swam the final two legs, combining with sophomore Kayla Mendonca and senior Katelyn Walsh, to win the 200 medley relay.
UConn has an overall 2-4 record against Villanova in head-to-head meets. The last time the teams met was a 179-119 Villanova win on Jan. 25, 2020.
