HUSKIES FOURTH AFTER ROUND 1 OF INVITATIONAL

HAMPDEN, Mass. –The UConn men's golf team was in fourth place, just one stroke out of third and just 10 strokes from the lead, Sunday after Round One of the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse.
Round Two of the 54-hole event is scheduled for Monday, with the final round set for Tuesday.
Two sophomore Huskies, Caleb Manuel (Topsham, Me.) and Jimmy Paradise (Tampa, Fla.), were tied for sixth place on the leaderboard after each shot a 2-under 70. Paradise is playing as an individual. West Point's John Heckel Jr. leads the tourney's 90-player field after shooting a 4-under 68.
The Huskies shot an aggregate 4-over, 292, trailing first-round leader Rhode Island (282), West Point (286), and Lafayette (291) in the 16-team field.
Besides Manuel's 70, senior Jared Nelson (Rutland, Vt.), tied for 19th place with a 1-over 73, senior Nick Hampoian (North Reading, Mass.) tied for 24th with a 2-over 74, sophomore Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) tied for 28th with a 3-over 75, and junior Logan Broyles (Mendon, Vt.) tied for 55th with a 5-over 77.
Besides Paradise, three UConn freshmen are playing as individuals. Eric Boulger (Walpole, Mass.) shot a 4-over 76 to tie for 43rd place, Vikram Konanki (Newton, Mass.) had a 5-over 77 to tie for 55th and Trevor Lopez (Winchester, Mass.) toed for 70th with a first-round 7-over 79.
