Bou and Hoppe Advance into Quarterfinals at ITA Regional

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The UConn women's tennis team finished up their weekend competing at the ITA Regional Championship with the senior-sophomore tandem of Julieanne Bou (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) and Leonie Hoppe (Munich, Germany) advancing all the way to the main doubles draw quarterfinals. This year's tournament was help at Army West Point.
The duo received a bye into the round of 32 and opened their tournament by beating Claire Koscielski and Brittney Wilbur of Quinnipiac, 8-6. In the round of 16, they posted an 8-4 win over Fordham's Valeriya Deminova and Eleni Fasoula, 8-4 to advance into the quarters. Bou and Hoppe saw their run cut short by the St. John's duo of Yesica de Lucas and Jayden Nielsen, 8-7 (4).
In the singles draw, Bou had a bye to the round of 64 and won her opening match over Katarina Plumtree of Fairfield. Bou dropped the first set 6-2 but came flying back for a 6-1, 10-5 win. She fell to Mirabelle Bretkelly of Yale in the round of 32.
Sophomore Aleksandra Karamyshev got a singles win in the opening round of 128, beating Rachelle Yang of Fordham, 6-4, 6-2. Sh lost in the next round to Columbia's Jennifer Kerr. She teamed up with freshman Isabel Petri Bere (Sweden) to get an opening round doubles win, beating Marion Conklin and Hailey Wilcox of Boston College, 8-7 (5).
The Huskies will return to the courts on October 8-10 at the Navy Invitational.
