STORRS, Conn. – With the homestretch of the regular season in sight, the UConn women's volleyball team will start November with home matches against Georgetown and Villanova.
The Huskies will open the weekend at Gampel Pavilion against the Hoyas on Friday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. and follow with another 7 p.m. start vs. the Wildcats the following day.
UConn (17-7, 9-3 BIG EAST) is in the midst of its best season in over a decade and is on pace for its first 20-win season since the 2008 campaign. Additionally, with a pair of wins, the Huskies would match their most BIG EAST wins in a single season since 1998, when the team went 11-1 in en route to co-sharing the BIG EAST regular season title.
Senior Kennadie Jake-Turner is coming off an impressive performance last weekend in wins at Xavier and Butler, tallying 26 kills with a .458 hitting percentage, and matched a career high with 16 kills vs. the Bulldogs. Jake-Turner is back atop the BIG EAST leader board in hitting percentage (.362), has double-digit kills in each of the last three matches, and also leads the Huskies in blocks per set (1.08).
Graduate student McKayla Wuensch is also on a hot streak after averaging 11.63 assists per set last weekend, and is coming of a season-high 47 assist-performance at Butler. Wuensch ranks fourth in the conference in assists per set (9.43) and has at least 46 helpers in three of the last five matches.
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN
The Hoyas picked up their second road win of the season Wednesday vs. Villanova to move to 2-11 in BIG EAST contests and 6-18 overall.
Jessica Cusi went for 23 digs in the first matchup between the Hoyas and Huskies in D.C. earlier this season, and leads Georgetown in digs per set (4.35) and has played in all 91 sets.
SCOUTING VILLANOVA
With Wednesday's loss at Georgetown, Villanova dropped its third straight road match to slip to 6-7 in conference action.
Belle Morgan is one of two BIG EAST student-athletes to average double-digit assists per set (10.04), while Riley Homer is fourth among league leaders in kills per set (3.55).
UP NEXT
UConn will have one more regular season road swing as it visits St. John's (Nov. 12) and Seton Hall (Nov. 13).
