Milliken Award Winners Announced
12/13/2021 10:03:00 AM | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
STORRS, Conn. - Emma Chee and Chris Keegan from the Women's and Men's Track & Field teams are the recipients of this year's Kyle Millken Memorial Award. "The Kyle Milliken Memorial fund was established by his friends and family to honor Navy Special Warfare operator Senior Chief Petty Officer(SEAL), Kyle Jeffrey Milliken '02(CLAS), who was KIA serving his country on May 5, 2017 in East Africa. In 1998, Kyle walked onto UConn's track and field program where he made every single one of his teammates a better runner, athlete and person with his leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment and drive, the very foundation for his success as a SEAL and in life."
The number of parallels between Kyle, Emma and Chris are striking. All three were walk-ons, they display inward and outward toughness, they are engaged with and committed to the success of their teammates and are ferocious competitors. Even with all of these similarities, the one that stands out is the fact that they choose to serve. Emma will be a Nurse, Chris will be a Secondary School teacher and Kyle served his Country. While Competitive athletics is what has brought Kyles legacy into the lives of Emma Chee and Chris Keegan, it will the their willingness to serve their fellow man that binds them inextricably. Congratulations to Emma and Chris.
