STORRS, Conn. – The third-ranked UConn women's basketball team (5-1) takes on Georgia Tech (6-2) Thursday at 7 p.m. The game will air on ESPN2 and the UConn Sports Network.
Thursday's game will serve as a homecoming game for senior Olivia Nelson-Ododa, who is a native of Winder, Ga.
The Huskies are coming off a 73-54 win over Notre Dame last Sunday in Gampel Pavilion. Sophomore Paige Bueckers led UConn with 22 points while Nelson-Ododa had her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
UConn is 2-0 all-time vs. Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech is coming off a 55-54 win over No. 20 Georgia on Sunday. Nerea Hermosa and Eylia Love each had 14 points in the upset. This season, Hermosa leads the Yellow Jackets with 11.6 points per game while Lorela Cubaj has the team lead with 12.3 rebounds per game. Head coach Nell Forner is in her third season at Georgia Tech.
Fortner was the head coach of the 2000 Olympic national team, on which UConn head coach Geno Auriemma served as an assistant. UConn associate head coach Chris Dailey and Georgia Tech Chief of Staff Mickie DeMoss were inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame together in 2018.
Bueckers will miss the next 6-8 weeks as she suffered a non-contact tibial plateau fracture to her left knee vs. Notre Dame.
