Bueckers Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

STORRS, Conn. – For the sixth time this season, UConn women's basketball guard Paige Bueckers was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Monday.
In a pair of road games against top-25 competition, Bueckers averaged 24.5 points, 7.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds, shooting 60-percent from the field and 80-percent from three. The rookie guard scored a team-high 27 points in Thursday's setback at 19th-ranked Arkansas before recording her first double-double with 22 points and 12 assists in Sunday's win at 17th-ranked DePaul.
On the week she finished third in the BIG EAST in scoring and second in assists. Following her performances, Bueckers jumped from fifth to third on the BIG EAST scoring list this season, bumping her average from 17.1 to 18.5 points per game. This is her sixth BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor.
Junior Christyn Williams was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Williams averaged 22.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a 1-1 road swing against top-25 competition. Her week was highlighted by a career-best 29 points on 12-of-15 shooting at 17th-ranked DePaul on Sunday, helping the Huskies stay undefeated (9-0) in BIG EAST play.
The Huskies (11-1, 9-0 BIG EAST) host St. John's (5-9, 2-7) in Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The game will air on SNY and 97-9 ESPN.
