MSOC Opens 2021 Campaign Against Sacred Heart

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team gets set to embark on this unprecedented 2021 soccer season as they play host to in-state rival Sacred Heart in Tuesday afternoon's season opener. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 p.m. at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium at the Rizza Family Sports Complex.

Reid Leading the Way
Head Coach Ray Reid enters his 32nd season of collegiate coaching and his 24th at the helm of the UConn men's soccer program. His record as a college head coach stands at 450-142-76, a 73.1% winning effort, which ranks him No. 3 in the nation in overall winning percentage among all NCAA active head coaches. His brilliant head coaching resume includes 25 NCAA Tournament berths --- including 18 of the last 22 seasons, and four NCAA National Championships---the 2000 NCAA Division I National Championship at UConn, and the 1990, 1992 and 1995 NCAA Division II National Championships at Southern Connecticut State University.
A Well Balanced Roster
The Huskies feature 15 returners from the 2019 team, including senior Robin Lapert, junior Felix Metzler, and sophomore Moussa Wade. UConn also welcomes nine newcomers to the squad, which features a pair of transfers and seven freshmen.
Looking to Bounce Back
UConn is looking to bounce back this year after a down 2019 season, when the team finished 5-12-1 overall and 2-5-1 in conference action.
Scouting the Opponent
Sacred Heart comes into the year after finishing the 2019 season with a 2-11-3 mark and a 1-5-3 finish in conference action. The Pioneers return 11 to the roster for the 2020 season, including top goal-scorer Segundo Navarro.
