Bueckers Scores 30 and Williams Adds 18 as Huskies Win at Marquette, 87-58

MILWAUKEE – Freshman standout Paige Bueckers poured in 30 points on 12-18 shooting and Christyn Williams scored 18 to lead the No. 3 UConn women's basketball team past Marquette, 87-58, at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee.
With the win, UConn improves to 13-1 on the year, including a spotless 11-0 in BIG EAST play. The Golden Eagles slip to 12-3 overall and 9-2 in league action.

Bueckers was 6-9 from long-range and also chased down three rebounds in 38-minutes of action. Friday marked her second-straight game with at least 30 points after she hung 32 on St. John's on Wednesday. Her classmate Aaliyah Edwards was the third Husky in double-figures with 11 points in only 16 minutes. Nika Muhl, another rookie, scored eight points, dropped nine dimes and snared eight rebounds while junior Olivia Nelson-Ododa had a similarly effective stat line of eight points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
The Huskies led by five points, 23-18, with 7:31 remaining in the second quarter but dominated the Golden Eagles for the remainder of the half. UConn outscored Marquette 18-4 to close out the first stanza and took a 41-22 lead into the break.
UConn kept Marquette at bay and inflated the lead to as many as 30 points on the way to the 87-58 victory.

The Huskies forced Marquette into 18 turnovers and converted those miscues into 20 points. UConn also shot a scintillating 57.4 percent from the floor en route to the victory.
The Huskies are back in action when the team welcomes No. 2 South Carolina to Storrs on Monday, February 8. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Gampel Pavilion and the contest will be televised nationally on FS1.
