QUEENS, N.Y. – The UConn men's soccer team was defeated at St. John's Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Red Storm, 2-0, at Beldon Stadium. The Huskies fall to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in BIG EAST action.
UConn nearly opened up the game scoring in the 16' after creating a pair of quality attempts on the counter that led to back-to-back shots from Ahdan Tait and Djimon Johnson. Tait placed a shot to the bottom left corner and Johnson fired a blast towards the top of the net, but the St. John's keeper was able to scoop up both attempts and keep the Huskies off the board.
St. John's managed to find the back of the net four minutes later and took a 1-0 lead off Tani Oluwaseyi's goal at 19:26.
The Huskies were outshot 8-3 after halftime as the home controlled possession for majority of the second half. The Red Storm doubled their lead at 56:42 after Jared Juleau placed one into the back of the cage.
UConn continued to battle despite facing a two-goal deficit, nearly cutting their advantage in half in the 86'. Maxwell De-Bodene found created some space for himself and lined one up towards bottom right corner, but the attempt was saved by the SJU netminder.
