Huskies Face Butler in Big East Semifinal Match

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's soccer team (8-2-1, 6-2-1 BE) will head to Providence, Rhode Island for a Big East Conference semifinal match against the Butler Bulldogs (9-1, 6-1 BE) on Friday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30pm at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
Semifinals – April 16 – BEDN
No. 1 Georgetown (East) vs. No. 2 Creighton (Midwest), 2 p.m. ET
No. 1 Butler (Midwest) vs. No. 2 UConn (East), 5 p.m. ET
Final – April 18 – FS1

Last Time Out
The Huskies return to action after almost two weeks away from the pitch. The regular season finale against Georgetown was canceled due to covid-19 concerns. However, UConn ended the regular season on a four-game win streak, with the most recent victory coming against Seton Hall, a 2-1 overtime win, where freshman Lucy Cappadona scored the winning goal in the 108th minute.
Matchup Preview
UConn has registered nine different goal scorers this season, totaling 20 goals, ranking fourth in the Big East. The Huskies ranked second in the conference in goals against, conceding only five goals in 11 games played, also tallying eight clean sheets. UConn will look to continue their defensive efforts as they take on a highly talented and high scoring Butler offense that ranked first in the conference in points, goals, and assists.
Scouting the Bulldogs
The Bulldogs are coming off a 2-1 victory over Creighton in the regular season finale. Junior Anja Savich scored both goals in the win, earning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week accolades. Fellow junior Katie Soderstrom was credited with the assist on the game winner.
Butler closed the regular season with a 9-1-0 overall record and a 6-1-0 slate in the conference. The Bulldogs' only loss came at DePaul during a four-game road swing in the middle of the season.
First Time Matchup
Friday's contest will be the first matchup between UConn and Butler in the two teams program history. Due to the divisional format of the Big East Conference this spring, the Huskies and Bulldogs did not face each other in a regular season game.
