UCONN GOLFERS SECOND AT CONNECTICUT CUP

ELLINGTON, Conn. – The UConn men's golf team fought off challenges from 10 other teams, but couldn't catch Boston College as BC captured the team championship and host school UConn was the runner-up of the 2021 Connecticut Cup, which ended Saturday at Ellington Ridge Country Club.
In an impressive performance, BC placed four players among the top five finishers, including individual medalist Brandon Kewalramani. The Eagles shot an aggregate 11-over, 293-291-291= 875, while Kewalramani fired a 2-over, 73-73-72=218, to win by one stroke over Iona's Justin Burkhamer.
UConn notched its fifth Top Five finish in six events this spring season by shooting an aggregate 298-302-296=896. UConn has a first and three second-place finishes this season. The Huskies placed all five players in the Top 25 in the 78-player field.
Temple, Drexel, and Fordham rounded out the top five in the 12-team event.
Leading the Huskies' effort was junior Jared Nelson (Rutland, Vt.), who finished in a tie for seventh, his second top 10 finish of the season, with a 6-over, 72-76=74=222. It included his fifth par-or-better round of the year. Nelson was second in Par 4 scoring, playing them in 2-over and he was fourth in the tournament with 37 pars.
Senior Rodrigo Sanchez (Santo Domingo, D.R.) continued his solid play this year with a 7-over, 75-74-74=223, placing him in a tie for ninth place, his second Top 10 finish this year.
Also for the Huskies, freshman Jimmy Paradise (Tampa, Fla.) finished in a tie for 16th with a 10-over, 75-76-75=226, his first career Top 20 finish. Freshman Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) finished in a tie for 20th with an 11-over, 77-76-74=227, his second Top 20 finish, and freshman Caleb Manuel (Topsham, Me.) finished in a tie for 25th with a 12-over, 76-78-74=228.
UConn also had four players competing as individuals, led by sophomore Logan Broyles (Mendon, Vt.), who had the finest performance of his career with a 7-over, 75-73-75=223, placing him in a tie for ninth place, the first Top 10 finish of his career. He also finished third in the tournament with 10 birdies.
Other Huskies competing included senior Finn Boynton (Milford, Conn.), who shot a 20-over, 76-80-80=236; junior Nick Hampoian (North Reading, Mass.), who shot a 22-over, 83-78-77=238, and senior Justin Clark (New Canaan, Conn.), who shot a 97-91-84=272.
UConn will continue its spring season on April 12-13, traveling to Bridgeport, WVa., to compete in the Mountaineer Invite, hosted by the University of West Virginia.
