Bueckers Named Nancy Lieberman Award Winner

BRISTOL, Conn. – UConn women's basketball guard Paige Bueckers was tabbed the winner of the 2021 Nancy Lieberman Award, given to the nation's top point guard, as announced by the Basketball Hall of Fame and Women's Basketball Coaches Association Sunday.
Bueckers continues to make history as she is the first freshman to earn the Lieberman Award, Naismith Trophy, AP National Player of the Year and USBWA National Player of the Year.
The 5-foot-11 guard earned First Team All-America honors from the WBCA, AP and USBWA. She was named the USBWA and WBCA Co-Freshman of the Year.
Bueckers was named the 2021 BIG EAST Player and Freshman of the Year and the BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player. She was named the River Walk Region Most Outstanding Player in the NCAA Tournament.
The Hopkins, Minn., led UConn to its 13th straight NCAA Final Four and a 28-2 overall record. Bueckers led UConn this season with 20.0 points, 5.8 assists and 2.3 steals per game, as well as a 46.4 three-point field goal percentage.
She holds the UConn records for most assists in a game (14) and most assists by a freshman (168).
Five Huskies have won the Nancy Lieberman Award a total of nine times: Sue Bird (2000, '01, '02), Diana Taurasi (2003, '04), Renee Montgomery (2009), Moriah Jefferson (2015, '16) and Bueckers (2021).
