Mia Nahom Wins BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week

STORRS, Conn. - UConn senior distance runner Mia Nahom (New Milford, Conn.) is this week'sย BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
Nahom ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the second time this spring and on Saturday night set a school record in the event at the Virginia Grand Prix.ย Nahom's PR took nearly nine seconds off her time from late March to finish second in the race with a time of 10:10.76.ย She breaks the previous record of 10:11.57 set by Meg Cunningham in 2017. The time currently ranks 42nd among all Division I competitors.
For the men, sophomore Travis Snyder (Saco, Maine) was the winner of the BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week.ย ย The Huskies took three of the top-five spots in the pole vault at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial led by Snyder who for the second-straight week set a PR.ย Snyder cleared a height of 5.28 meters to come in second. The height ranks 38th in the NCAA this season.ย
