Huskies Tabbed an ITA All-Academic Team for 8th-Straight Season

STORRS, Conn. - For the eighth-straight season, the UConn women's tennis program has been recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an All-Academic team for achieving a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above for the 2020-21 season.
In addition, for the second-straight year, eight student-athletes garnered ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for achieving a grade point average of 3.50 or higher for the academic year.
"I am very proud of the team's academic accomplishments this past year," stated Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall. "In what were very challenging times, they continued to impress me with their focus, time management, and drive to excel in the classroom."
Recent graduate Elizabeth Kozyi (Alexandria, Va.) closed out her career earning the honor in each of her four seasons at UConn while rising senior Luciana Rabines (Barcelona, Spain) was honored for the third-straight season.
Earning ITA academic honors for the second-straight season was junior Julieanne Bou (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) along with sophomores Caroline Cook (Naples, Fla.), Kyra Foster (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Denise Lai (Setauket, N.Y.).
Making the cut for the first time was sophomore Doga Selen Takunyaci (Istanbul, Turkey) and freshman Leonie Hoppe (Munich, Germany).
All eight Huskies were also named to the 2020-21 BIG EAST All-Academic team.
"For us to have eight players named as ITA Scholar-Athletes, and our team to be recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team, is an amazing achievement," commented Marshall.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet the following requirements:
- have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year
- be listed on the institutional eligibility form
To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements:
- have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale),
- all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and
- all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year
