Gebril, Couzis Earn BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete Awards

NEW YORK – UConn student-athletes Omar Gebril (indoor men's track & field) and Stephanie Couzis (women's soccer) earned the 2020-21 BIG EAST Institutional Scholar Athlete Awards, as announced by the conference Wednesday.
Each institutional winner receives $2,000 toward graduate or professional studies.
Gebril competed primarily in the 400-meter and 800-meter. He served as an executive board member for the Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
Couzis was a United Coaches East Region Second Team and All-BIG EAST First Team selection in spring 2021. As a senior defender, she helped lead UConn to an 8-3-1 overall record, including six shutouts. Couzis was also selected to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team.
Gebril and Couzis were each named to the 2020-21 BIG EAST All-Academic Team. They both graduated from UConn in the spring.
