STORRS, Conn. – UConn Swimming and Diving head coach Chris Maiello announced the hiring of Hayley Masi as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator on Tuesday afternoon.
"I am eager to begin working with Hayley in all phases of our program. I believe she is a talented, hardworking, compassionate and energetic coach who will impact our program on multiple levels," said Maiello.
"I felt her experience both as a head coach and most recently assistant coach at Fordham was comprehensive. It's been fun getting to know Hayley through the interview process as our coaching philosophies of athlete development, athlete experience, recruiting and training are closely aligned. I can't wait to have her get started."
Masi joins UConn after spending the two years as an assistant coach at Fordham University where she ran practices, coordinated recruiting efforts, and handled the team's travel needs. She also helped the team place second in the Atlantic10 Championship meet in 2020.
Before her time with Fordham, Masi worked as an interim head swim coach at the Maine Maritime Academy. She was later promoted to Head Swim Coach and Aquatics Director at the academy, where she was responsible for recruiting, coordinating practices and scheduling, as well as alumni relations. Masi led the team its first team win in school history and the CSCAA Scholar All-American Team Award.
"I am very excited to be joining the UConn family and am extremely grateful to Coach Chris Maiello and the search committee for this opportunity," said Masi.
"Coach Maiello has a powerful vision for the program and I look forward to helping the Huskies achieve everything that I believe they are capable of. I think this is a very special time for UConn Swimming and Diving and I can't wait to be a part of it. Go Huskies!"
A four-year letter winner with the University of Massachusetts Amherst Swimming and Diving team, Masi served as team captain in her senior year. She competed in the Atlantic10 Championship meets three years, recording top-20 finishes in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events.
