STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The UConn women's track & field team competed at a pair of unscored meets on Friday, sending some distance runners to the John Thomas Terrier Classic at BU and the rest of their team to the UAlbany Great Dane Classic at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Center in Staten Island, N.Y.
UConn senior Mia Nahom (New Milford, Conn.) continued her strong start to the indoor season and posted a school record breaking performance in the mile at the BU meet.
"Mia broke her own school record by 2 seconds with a time of 4:37.45 putting her 9th in the country," commented Assistant Track & Field Coach Lindsay Crevoiserat. "The race was a bit chaotic and just over crowded, she couldn't move when we needed to move. But we both came away feeling like that was a solid race, and excited to know she is capable of more. We're in January and she's already running pretty fast with just being strong. I'm very happy where she is with training."
At the Great Dane Classic, the Huskies grabbed wins in the long jump with Taylor Woods (Marlboro, Md.), the high jump with Patricia Mroczkowski (Berlin, Conn.) and the pole vault with Emma Chee (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), her third win this season.
