The No. 13 Huskies field hockey team will host two games in what is sure to be an exciting "UConn Women in Athletics" weekend on campus in Storrs, CT.
The team will open the weekend against Villanova on Friday, October 14 at 1 p.m. at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex, followed by a game against Boston College on Sunday, October 16 at 1 p.m.
The field and street sign at George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex will undergo a rebranding on Sunday just prior to the start of the Boston College game. The street will now be named "Diane Wright Way" after the Head Coach for the Huskies, Diane Wright, who won two National Championships during her time at UConn. The field will be renamed "Nancy Stevens Field" in honor of long-time Head Coach Nancy Stevens. Stevens is the winningest coach Division I NCAA field hockey has ever seen, compiling an impressive 700 wins, 38 BIG EAST Championships, and 3 National Championships. Stevens currently serves as a Volunteer Coach for the UConn Huskies program.
Jasmijn Damman's two-goal game against Quinnipiac University earned her BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors this past week. The freshman's pair of goals on Friday afternoon put her at three total goals on the season.
After breaking the all-time goalkeeper saves record last weekend, UConn veteran goalkeeper, Cheyenne Sprecher, will look to continue widening that gap in the two games against Villanova and Boston College. Sprecher made 12 saves in the loss against No. 1 UNC, her highest single game total all season.
