STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team blanked the Stonehill College Skyhawks 4-0 on Wednesday night at Ray Reid Field at Morrone Stadium. Frantz Pierrot led the way with two goals in the first half to seal the win for the Huskies.
The first ten minutes of the match were played in the middle third of the field with both teams searching for an opening goal. The Huskies got the game's first chance in the 11th minute as Mateo Leveque whipped in a cross right to an open Eli Conway, but his shot was blocked right in front of goal. The deflection from Conway's shot fell right to an open Maxwel De-Bodene at the top of the box but his shot was just wide of the goal.
UConn got on the scoreboard in the 23rd minute as freshman Kwame Adu-Gyamfi found a great through ball to sophomore Greg Maclean along the left flank. Maclean played in a cross that was spilled by the Stonehill goalkeeper and Pierrot was there to clean up the rebound. This is the Huskies sixth time scoring the game's opening goal this season.
Pierrot would add to his tally 15 minutes later in the 38th minute giving UConn a 2-0 lead. De-Bodene found a great pass in space to Pierrot in the box and the graduate transfer did well to take the ball around the goalkeeper off his line and finish on an open net. This is Pierrot's team leading fifth goal of the season.
UConn would add to their lead just one minute later as Conway got on the scoresheet for the third time this season. Freshman Pierce Bateson found his fellow classmate with an over the top through ball to put Conway in on goal as he finished in the bottom corner with his left foot.
The half ended with UConn having a commanding 3-0 lead. The Huskies controlled possession for much of the second half limiting Stonehill to only 2 shots on goal.
Freshman forward Joey Saputo scored his first collegiate goal in the 73rd minute extending the Huskies lead to 4-0. UConn played a short corner kick quickly taken by Adu-Gyamfi who notched his second assist of the night as Saputo got on the end of his cross across the face of goal.
