2022 BIG EAST Championship Final Results
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The UConn women's cross-country team ran to a third place finish at the 2022 BIG EAST Championships presented by JEEP on Saturday afternoon at the Highland Park Course in Attleboro, Mass.
"A big shout out to Providence and head coach Ray Treacy, who his 38 years at helm this was their first time hosting the conference championship and they put together a great event," stated Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Elizabeth Alford-Sullivan. "Just an awesome day for Providence and the BIG EAST."
The Huskies finished with a total of 89 points in the 6K championship race and had a pair of All-BIG EAST finishers in grad student Randi Burr (Westerly, RI) and sophomore Chloe Thomas (Dundas, Ontario). The Georgetown Hoyas defended their title, besting the field with five runners in the top-10 and a total score of 29 points. Providence was second with 40 points.
Burr had a seventh-place finish on Saturday and clocked in with a new PR in a 6K race with a time of 20:30.8. Thomas finished 15th overall in the field, posting a time of 20:58.0. "We were thrilled with today's result," said Sullivan. "We went in with the goal to battle for third overall and hold off Villanova and we pulled together really well. Randi Burr ran a great race; a championship performance all the way through. She really ran brilliant. And Chloe Thomas came through with a great all-conference race."
"Randi is a tremendous leader in the program and has really stepped up into that roll and is the gel of the team. Give her the credit. She has had a successful career and with a big coaching change this year, she has bought right in. She is so coachable, and a total class act and has so much pride in herself, her team and the program."
Junior Jenna Zydanowicz (West Hartford, CT) was 22nd overall with a time of 21:21 and rounding out the UConn top-five, all inside the top-25 in the race, was junior Sophie Coughlin (Melbourne, Australia) who finished in 21:29 for 25th overall. Senior Caroline Webb (Greenwich, CT) took 28th place with a finish of 21:32 and freshman Maddie Reylea (Mayfield, NY) was right on her heels in 29th at her first conference championship, running in 21:34.
The Huskies will return to action on Friday, November 11 when they run at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship in the Bronx, NY at Van Cortlandt Park.
