Beth Alford-Sullivan Honored with the Jimmy Carnes Distinguished Service Award

Storrs, Conn. - The newly acclaimed Director of Track & Field/Cross Country, Beth Alford-Sullivan, was awarded the Jimmy Carnes Distinguished Service Award on Tuesday.
The Jimmy Carnes Distinguished Service award is presented to an individual every December at the USTFCCCA Convention and is given to someone who has put forth tremendous efforts to the Association and to the sports of cross country and track & field. With this award, Alford-Sullivan becomes the first recipient from UConn since its inception in 2007.Â
"Thank you to USTFCCCA leadership and our CEO Sam Seemes," Alford-Sullivan said. "Jimmy Carnes was a great leader within our Coaches association and I am honored to receive this award in his name. It has been a privilege to serve this great organization and see growth of it throughout the years. I am proud to have had an impact and I will continue to work for the betterment of our sports, the student-athletes, and our coaching profession."
Jimmy (James) Jerome Carnes was an American track and field athlete, coach, and administrator. Carnes collected a successful 161-11 dual meet record including four college conference championships. He was also the head coach of the U.S Olympic track and field team and a member of the U.S Track & Field Hall of Fame. The award ceremony continues to honor the award in Jimmy's name for his great involvement in the sport of track & field.Â
