STORRS, Conn. - Recognized as one of the top lacrosse players in the nation, Sydney Watson of the UConn women's lacrosse team has been named to the 2022 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, the organization announced Thursday evening.
The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are comprised of premier college coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
Watson was one of 25 nominees on last season's final list, and is one of 51 student-athletes on this year's initial watch list.
Watson, who was named the BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year earlier this week, is coming off a breakout season in which led the conference in goals (56), draw controls (136), and broke her own program single-season draw control mark. The senior posted multi-goal efforts in all but three-of-17 contests during the 2021 campaign, and owns a 22-game point streak dating back to the 2020 season.

About The Tewaaraton Foundation
Founded at the University Club of Washington, DC and first presented in 2001, the Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the preeminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. Endorsed by the Mohawk Nation Council of Elders and U.S. Lacrosse, the Tewaaraton Award symbolizes lacrosse's centuries-old roots in Native American heritage. The Tewaaraton Foundation ensures the integrity and advances the mission of this award. Each year, the Tewaaraton Award celebrates one of the six tribal nations of the Iroquois Confederacy – the Mohawk, Cayuga, Oneida, Onondaga, Seneca and Tuscarora – and presents two scholarships to students of Native American descent.
