UCONN GOLFERS WIN BIG EAST MATCH PLAY EVENT

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The UConn men's golf team got its spring season off to a successful start, capturing the team championship at BIG EAST Match Play, which finished Tuesday at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla.
The Huskies outdueled Seton Hall, 3-2-1, in the tourney finals, which featured the two teams that accumulated the most victories and points during Monday's quarterfinals and semifinals.
Sophomores Caleb Manuel (Topsham, Me.), Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) and Jimmy Paradise (Tampa, Fla.) continued their undefeated march through the tournament as each notched a victory over his Seton Hall opponent, while senior Jared Nelson (Rutland, Vt.) tied his match to give the Huskies the 3-2-1 victory.
Dallahan won his match, 4 and 3, while Manuel and Paradise each registered 3 and 2 victories.
UConn finished 3-0 in the tourney, defeating Butler, 4-0-2, and Creighton, 4-1-1, on Monday before Tuesday's title match against Seton Hall. For the three rounds, the Huskies posted an 11-3-4 record in the 18 head-to-head matches.
Manuel, Dallahan and Paradise were each 3-0 in the event, while Nelson and senior Nick Hampoian (North Reading, Mass.) each were 1-1-1, and freshman Trevor Lopez (Winchester, Mass.) went 0-1-2.
Creighton finished third in Match Play, St. John's finished fourth, Sacred Heart was fifth, and Butler came in sixth.
UConn will continue its spring schedule on Feb. 13-15, when it competes in the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate at Hammock Creek Golf Club in Palm City, Fla.
